How We Craft
In the world of woodworking, some people like to purchase their wood already milled. We prefer to hand select each piece of wood “in the rough”. No two pieces of wood are the same, making each dog bed truly unique. Because we mill the wood ourselves, the reveal of the wood grain is the beginning of an exciting process and the love we put into your dog bed.
Hand selecting and milling the wood are the first steps, we then take great care to create the joinery and hand-shape each solid wood topper. We utilize several machines and hand tools to achieve the desired craftsmanship. This includes using a horizontal mortiser, bandsaw, disc sander, grinder, spoke shave and rasp. It’s a process but is definitely worth the effort and attention to detail.

Our metal legs are Barkiture designed and inspired by the studio furniture we once made. The legs are hand-crafted in Orange County by a family owned metal company. We work closely with them and when we thought we should offer a smaller height, they didn’t hesitate. Once the legs are shaped, they powder coat them in a flat black. The hand-brushed brass plating is done through a different company in San Diego.
The body of our dog beds have a textured layer of laminate on both sides. Most have a wood grain appearance while we’ve selected a few that have more of a woven look. We chose this beautiful laminate instead of wood veneer due to its durability and ease of cleaning. It’s similar in comparison to lycra and cotton, they each have their own perfect use.

We work closely with our clients to ensure the combination of materials works for them. We offer a variety of designer inside/outside upholsteries but can’t carry everything. We are happy to explore different colors and patterns to reflect your aesthetic.
